A winga knows which duka has it, what it should cost, and whether it is genuine. That knowledge is the job. Post what you want — a photo, or the specification in your own words — and the wingas quote. The one you pick sources it, takes it mali kauli or pays cash, stands behind it, and hands it to you.

Genuine only. Nimechomwa mara mbili na fake — I have been burned twice.
Ramtons 2-burner gas cooker
Group request · 4 buyers
Four households, same model. Whoever quotes serves all four.
Ordered by rating and badge before price. TSh 23,000 is real money — and so is a winga with eight deals holding your amana.
A mteja who vanishes after a winga has already taken goods on kauli is the costliest thing on this platform. Ratings run both ways.
Neither side is lending here — Winga only holds the record both of them agreed to. That alone ends the argument that starts every kauli dispute: hatukukubaliana hivyo. Guarantee the money instead and this becomes a lender, with everything the Bank of Tanzania attaches to that word.
Drawn in the app's own CSS, and there is a working build behind them: Go, Next.js and Tauri, running on desktop and ready for iOS and Android. Pick one and the phone above changes.
The spread is not a markup hidden on a buyer. It is payment for knowing the market, vetting the goods, fronting the money, and carrying the delivery — four jobs the customer would otherwise do badly, on foot, in Kariakoo, on a Saturday. A platform that publishes shop costs in the name of transparency is quietly saying that work is worth nothing, and its wingas will be gone by the second season. So Winga shows the buyer one honest number, the all-in price, and disciplines it with competing quotes. Same as a ride app: you are never shown the fuel, you are shown what three drivers will do it for — and nobody thinks the driver is hiding something.
Requests, quotes, ratings and badges get you a marketplace. These are the pieces that make it a profession — most of them protecting the winga, not the buyer, because the winga is the one carrying the risk. Flagged by whether you can launch without them.
A winga who accepts a deal has committed real money, or their standing at a shop, for one named person's item. If that person stops replying, the winga owns a thing nobody else asked for. Hold a deposit the moment a quote is accepted; make it non-refundable once sourcing starts, past a short grace window.
Without it, the supply side quietly stops answering requests.A catalogue picture is how you advertise; it was never meant to be how you prove. Right now a winga with genuine stock in their hands has no way to show it that a stranger will believe. A live, timestamped photo of the specific item, camera only, settles it in four seconds — and it is worth far more to the honest winga than to the buyer, because it is the difference between being trusted and being argued with.
Picha ya mzigo halisi. Proof they can offer, not a check imposed on them. The winga's exposure is larger than the customer's — they front the goods. A customer reliability score, visible before a winga decides to quote, is not a nicety. It is what lets a good winga decline the requests that are going to cost them.
Bolt rates the rider for the same reason.Telling a real Bosch from a good copy is expertise a winga has and a buyer does not — it is one of the most valuable things they sell, and today they get no credit for it. Give disputes a "not genuine" category of their own and the wingas who consistently source real goods rise on it. The badge has to be losable for the same reason: one that can never be taken away is worth nothing to the people who earned it.
Hamisi in the feed has been burned twice. A good winga is his protection, not his risk.A buyer who meets a good winga will want them again — that is the relationship the app should be protecting, not preventing. Keep the duka's identity off the platform until handover, then let a customer follow their winga: repeat rates, a direct line, first refusal on their requests. Loyalty is a better answer than a lock-in, and it is the one the winga actually benefits from.
Every ride app fights this. The ones that win make staying easier than leaving.M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money — and cash on handover as a first-class path, because most of Kariakoo still is. Wingas working from a feature phone need USSD for the parts that move money, even if quoting happens in the app.
A wallet-only product excludes the wingas who are already good at this.Settlement history, deal count and rating together describe creditworthiness for people no bank will currently score. Start as the shared ledger and nothing more. Guarantee a winga's kauli and you are lending — a different company, with Bank of Tanzania licensing attached — but that is the business underneath the marketplace, and it is the larger one.
Ledger first. Earn the data before you underwrite against it.Four people wanting the same cooker is a wholesale break one winga can negotiate and none of them can. This is the thing a platform can do that a hundred separate Instagram DMs structurally cannot, and it is the argument for buyers to post publicly instead.
In the feed as "Group request · 4 buyers".A bodaboda from Kariakoo to Mbezi is not the same leg as one to Ilala. Quote the item and the transport as two lines, or the cheapest quote is just the one that guessed lowest on fuel and will renegotiate at the door.
Keeps quotes actually comparable.
